The Phillipsburg Panthers basketball teams will host a home conference game against the Plainville Cardinals on Friday, January 5 at 4:30 pm.
In a highly anticipated matchup, the Phillipsburg Varsity Panthers will hit the court against Plainville Friday night at 7:30 pm in Newlin Gym. Defeating the Cardinals 71-61 in the third game of the season, the Panthers bring a well-rounded group of ballers to the game. Senior Trey Thompson leads the team with an averaged 8.8 points per game, exceeding a national average of 5.2. Senior Jordan Ford leads the Panthers in rebounds per game and blocks per game with 7.0 and 1.0 respectively. Freshman Ty Sides leads with 2 assists per game and junior Nathan Moon leads with 3.5 steals per game. Jared Casey leads the Cardinals in all aspects except in blocks per game. Anthony Ventura holds the team lead in blocks per game with 1.3 per game average. Shutting down Casey may be the key to victory for the Panthers.
The last matchup saw the Panthers outshoot and outperform the Cardinals in the first three quarters of play. A Cardinal run during the fourth quarter put pressure on the Panthers, however, was not enough to turn the tide.
Phillipsburg is 5 and 1 on the year and 2 and 0 in district play. Max Preps shows the Panthers ranked 2,006th nationally and 19th in the State in 3A play. The Cardinals are ranked 6,206th nationally and 80 in the state.
