Summer Youth Employment Offered
at Kirwin National Wildlife Refuge
Kirwin National Wildlife Refuge is offering three Youth Conservation Corps (YCC) positions for students ages 15 to 18 during the summer months in 2019. This year’s YCC employment will last eight weeks, starting on June 3, 2019 and continuing until July 26, 2019. YCC students will work 40 hours a week, 7:30 a.m. until 4:00 p.m., Monday thru Friday and will be paid the minimum wage of $7.25/hr. They will be responsible for their own transportation to and from work.
The YCC offers students the chance to learn a variety of skills in the great outdoors, get plenty of exercise, engage in teamwork, meet new friends, accomplish goals, and learn about the natural world. Trips to another refuge are also a possibility for Kirwin’s YCC team. Students will be provided with all the necessary safety and work equipment, and will be under constant supervision of an YCC Leader and other refuge staff. In order to qualify for the program, an applicant must be a United States citizen, must be at least 15 years old (not due to turn 19 years old before the program ends), and must possess a social security card.
Employment applications have been sent to all local high schools. To receive an application by mail please contact the Refuge office at 785/543-6673. Completed applications may be hand delivered to the refuge office or mailed to: Kirwin NWR, 702 E Xavier Rd., Kirwin, KS 67644.
Applications must be received by April 15, 2019. Participants will be selected through a random drawing. YCC is an equal opportunity employer.
