Phillipsburg High School Publications finishes second at state competition

The Phillipsburg High School publications department brought home the silver from the Kansas Scholastic Press Association State Contest.

After competing virtually on April 17, the team received results on Sunday, May 5. As a staff, Phillipsburg earned 51 points to capture the second place finish at the meet. Humbolt High School captured the gold.

Phillipsburg had multiple individuals and partnerships place in their respective competitions: senior Cara Ricker placed 3rd in Advertising Design, 3rd in News Page Design and fifth in Social Media; senior Caydence Corman finished sixth in Editorial Cartoon; junior Kaitlyn Rothe finished 2nd in Infographic Design and 2nd in Student Life Photography; senior Lexi Boydston finished 4th in New Page Design; senior Jocelyn Billings finished 3rd in Sports Feature Photo; junior Jenna Storz finished 3rd in Student Life Photography; senior Layton Johnon was a state champion in Video News and 2nd in Video Sports Promo; seniors Jaxon Glendening and Dayton Hugunin finished 2nd in Video PSA and Glendening finished fourth in Review Writing.

"I'm super proud of the effort these students and all of those students who competed put into their entries. They work hard throughout the year to bring the publications to life and then compete at regionals and state on top of that. The alcolades they earned are proof of their continued committment to being successful," Advisor Robin Sides said.
