Dayton Hugunin, son of Chris and Ranelle Hugunin of Phillipsburg, was recently selected to receive the Kansas Funeral Directors’ Association Scholarship for the Spring, 2025 Semester. In order to be considered, students must be currently enrolled in their final semester at an accredited Mortuary Science Program in the state of Kansas, officially registered as a student with the Kansas State Board of Mortuary Arts, and plan to remain in the state of Kansas after they graduate. Of those students who are qualified, the KFDA Scholarship Committee selects candidates who they believe are the best representatives of their future profession. Dayton is a 2024 graduate of Phillipsburg High School. He is currently enrolled in the Mortuary Science Program at Kansas City Kansas Community College. He is employed by the Warren McElwain Mortuary in Lawrence where he is completing his practicum requirements. Dayton is pursuing a degree in Mortuary Science and plans to become licensed as a funeral director and embalmer in both Kansas and Nebraska upon completion of his degree in May of 2025.
