Phillipsburg PTV students win ASB video contest
A group of PTV video students put their talents to the test as they entered a nationwide video contest earlier this month. The competition, which was hosted by the Academy of Scholastic Broadcasting, required students to create a 60-90 second video that highlighted unique elements of their school’s video studio creatively.
The video team of PHS seniors James Kraushaar, Nathan Fischer, Clayton Chestnut, and Michael VanDerVeen collaborated to create their video which featured Kraushaar as a police officer investigating mysterious activity in the PTV classroom. Throughout the video, different aspects of the studio (classroom) were shown to meet the requirements of the contest prompt.
Winners of the competition were announced through a video release sent to all schools that entered the contest. “I received the video of the results in my email on Thursday morning before school, and as I started watching the results, I felt like our chances for winning were slim because our facilities and equipment are quite modest compared to the schools competing. The third place winner was announced, and when I saw that it was John Burrows High School of Burbank, California, I thought–wow–isn’t Burbank where NBC studios are! Then, another large California school was announced for second place. When the first place video was announced and Phillipsburg, KS, came across the screen, that was pretty cool,” PHS video teacher Kim Pakkebier said.
For winning first place, the school is awarded with a $500 gift card from B&H Photo and Video. “It’s really not about the monetary prize. I think this was a great experience for our students to show that we can create good projects without the fancy studios that some larger schools have. It also gives our students some national recognition for the work they do,” Pakkebier said.
