Two teams from Phillipsburg competed in Indianapolis, Indiana, at the National FFA Convention & Expo.

A team competed in the Vet Science Career Development Event (CDE). The team included seniors Morgan Johnson, Aden Shaw, Lydia Walker and alumni Cody Summit.

To prepare, they put many hours into studying for a written knowledge exam, veterinary math applications, identification, clinical practicums and handling and restraining practicums.

“It is kind of a big deal, bigger than people realize, because it is an honor to be the best out of the state and represent Kansas at Nationals,” FFA Advisor Allison Dix said.

The Vet Science team placed in the bronze division.

Alumni Madi Johnson also competed at National Convention, earning silver in the Job Interview Leadership Development Event (LDE). She completed pre-contest paperwork, on-site application, a telephone and panel interview and a follow-up letter.

Other results included Walker placing in the gold division, Summit in the silver division, and Morgan Johnson and Shaw in the bronze division.

Along with the competition came an opportunity to participate in many engaging activities.

“My favorite tour was the Tuttle Apple Orchard,” senior Kalinda Meili said.

Junior Kaitlyn McCreery agreed that the trip was a blast.

“My favorite thing at National Convention was definitely the dance party and shopping,” McCreery said.
