Phillipsburg boys' track secures fifth place at Smith Center
Attending the Norton Invitational track meet on April 11, the Phillipsburg High School boys’ track team was successful placing 5th out of 12 teams.
To start off the day, junior javelin thrower Blake Buresh took 5th with a throw of 148-4. Senior Kyron Hughes placed 11th throwing 135, and Caleb Leidig followed close behind placing 12th and throwing 133-11. Keeping all the entries above 20, sophomore Zane Shields finished 15th with a throw of 132-7.
The junior boys had lots of placements in field events which began at 3:30. Ej Hall and Tanner Horinek placed 1st and 2nd in long jump with distances of 21-11.5 and 20-9.75 feet. Coming in close behind were sophomore Tyray Snyder placing 6th with a jump of 18-10.25 and Eli Springer jumping 17-11.5 finishing with a placement of 9th.
Snyder also had a 3rd place finish in triple jump with a distance of 39-10.75 feet. Hall followed with a 5th place jump of 38-1.5 and Springer on his tail in 6th jumping at 37-8 feet. Also triple jumping was sophomore Aidan Derr placing 13th with a distance of 32-8.
The young pole vault team had 3 entries starting with Cleveland Corman placing 7th with a vault of 10’6. Freshman Carter Bogart and Colton Summit placed 10th and 11th with heights of 8’6 and 8’0.
Also participating in the high jump, Corman placed 17th with a jump of 4 '10. Freshman Riot Rodriguez had an 11th place finish clearing 5’2 and taking 6th was sophomore Eli Springer with a jump of 5’6.
Throwing for shot, senior Kyron Hughes finished 7th with a throw of 41-4 and also placed 10th in discus throwing 113-11 feet. Junior Blayze Christy also doubled up in events and had a 16th place finish throwing 37-5.25 in shot put and a distance of 125-3 feet in discus placing 6th.
Also participating in discus was sophomore Zane Shields with a throw of 100-4 feet giving him a 17th placing and freshman Riot Rodriguez finishing 26th with a distance of 77-2 feet. Freshman Ty Horinek and junior Blake Buresh took 22nd and 23rd in shot put with close distances of 35-9 and 35-4 feet.
Junior Tanner Horinek had a successful day, placing in all his running events. Horinek got 2nd in the 110 and 300 hurdles with times of 15.38 and 42 flat. He participated in the 4x1 along with juniors Ej Hall, Colin Springer, and 4th leg senior Alex VanAllen.
VanAllen also placed 2nd in the open 400 ending with a time of 54.09 and 4th in the open 100 finishing the race in 11.58 seconds. Other participants in the open 100 were sophomore Tyray Snyder with a 14th place finish and Colin Springer in 17th with close times of 12.12 and 12.30. Freshman Carter Bogart was the other 400 participant with a time of 1:04 and placed 12th.
