The KAY club recently held a project on Oct. 22 called “Trick or Treat So Others Can Eat.”

During the project, groups of KAY members asked townspeople if they were willing to donate canned food to the local food pantry. The project was a competition to see which group could collect the most food.

Freshman Zoey Griffin enjoyed the experience, saying, “I liked getting to have so much fun with my friends while also helping out the community!”

By the end, the club collected 1,026.5 pounds of food. The winning group collected 216.5 pounds and included juniors Ana Schemper and Emalee Russell and sophomores Kynley Griffen, Bella Stities and Addison Laurin.

To make the evening more fun, students dressed in Halloween outfits.

Junior Lydia Patterson said, “The food I got the most was green beans, and I was an alien for my costume!”

Due to the success of the event, KAY members are already looking forward to next year.

Junior Kelcie Jacobs said she would participate again next year.

“Yes, I would do this again next year. It was really fun and a good way to help the community,” Jacobs said.
