Junior Avery Jacobs qualified for the 3A State Golf Meet in exciting fashion when he competed with the Phillipsburg High School team at the 3A Regional Meet in Norton on May 13.

Going into the last hole, Jacobs was in contention for a top 10 finish and a chance to qualify for the state meet. Jacobs potentially needed at least a bogie to qualify, but on the last hole, he double bogied, which could have put him out of contention.

However, when the scores were reviewed, Jacobs' unofficial score on the phone had been miscalculated. Jacobs ended the meet shooting an 86, which put him tied for ninth place and qualified him for the next step: the 3A State Meet in Emporia on Monday, May 20. He was the only Panther to qualify.

As a team, the Panthers finished fifth with a score of 393. Lakin was the top team with a score of 337 followed by Colby at 350. Both of these schools will advance their entire teams to the tournament. The next five individuals, who are not on the top two teams, also qualify for the meet. Jacobs earned the final fifth spot along with Pfannenstiel from Norton, who Jacobs tied with for ninth place.

Other Panthers competing in the meet were sophomore Cole Shelton with a 91, junior Hunter Sisson with a 103, senior Landon Wyatt with a 113, freshman Mason Laurin with a 116 and junior Kaden Sisson with a 125.
