Three organizations at Phillipsburg High School came together this month to make a difference for one Phillipsburg family.

During the summer, middle school student Eli Wood was diagnosed with Juvenile Diabetes. In an effort to help his family defray medical expenses, the FFA, KAY and FCCLA organizations at PHS teamed up to host the reasonably priced meal booth at the September Farmers Market.

Thanks to a generous donation of locally raised beef from Jan, Amy and Dustin Johnson, the groups were able to pass on all proceeds from the event to the Wood Family.

They prepared 152 quarter-pound hamburgers for the event and sold out around 6:00 pm. Members of each group volunteered to prepare individually wrapped dessert items at home and to work the booth. FCS classes formed the beef into the patties ahead of time. Advisors Allison Dix, Belinda Sisson and Deb Weishaar organized their members and prepped the necessary materials for the booth.

The booth also accepted donations throughout the market for the cause. This collaborative effort yielded $1,265.00 to help the Wood family.

FCCLA Sponsor Deb Weishaar noted, "This project is a perfect example of what brought our family to Phillipsburg twelve years ago...this caring community rallies around to help when they see a need!"
