Lady Panthers earn win in season opener
On Friday, December 6, the Phillipsburg Lady Panthers traveled to Oakley to take on the Plainsmen. Despite trailing 17-5 in the first quarter, the Lady Panthers fought back, outscoring their opponent in the remaining quarters to secure a hard-fought 36-34 victory.
Offensively, senior Kayla Jacobs and sophomore Ryleigh Seems led the way, each scoring 14 points. The team also excelled on the offensive glass, collecting 16 rebounds, with Seems leading the way with six. The Panthers shot 30% from the field, narrowly edging Oakley’s 29%, and showcased their teamwork with seven assists, consistently finding the open player.
On the defensive end, the Lady Panthers were active, recording 13 deflections and 11 steals. Senior Karissa Keeten led with three steals and four deflections. Seems stood out with nine defensive rebounds, contributing to the team’s dominance on the boards as they out-rebounded the Plainsmen 23-17 on defense. The Panthers also tallied three blocks, with their defensive effort proving crucial in securing the win.
Their determined defense and teamwork were key factors in the comeback victory.
