Lady Panthers drop Amos Morris opener

On Tuesday, December 10, the Phillipsburg Lady Panthers kicked off the Amos Morris Tournament in Russell. In the first round, they faced the Central Plains Oilers in a 3:30 game. Despite the quiet atmosphere in the gym, the Lady Panthers came out strong but ultimately fell to the Oilers, 39-44.

Offensively, the Lady Panthers shot 27% from the field. Senior Kayla Jacobs had 16 points on the night with sophomore Ryleigh Seems trailing with 12. Senior Karissa Keeten stood out as a playmaker, leading the team with four assists.

Overall, the team excelled at sharing the ball, recording 12 assists. On the boards, the Lady Panthers fought hard, collecting 23 offensive rebounds. Senior Brynn Billings led with five rebounds, while several teammates followed closely with four each. They also showed progress by reducing their turnovers by 10 compared to their previous game.

Defensively, the Lady Panthers made their presence felt with 12 deflections and seven steals. Jacobs led the way with five steals and four deflections. On the glass, they grabbed 17 defensive rebounds, with Seems leading with seven. The team also recorded two blocks.

The Lady Panthers will return to action on Friday at 3:30 in Russell for the second round of the Amos Morris Tournament, where they will face Sylvan-Lucas.
