Trojans experience first loss of season

It didn't take long for the Hornets to score on Friday, Oct. 4 in Dighton. The Trojans answered quickly with a long touchdown pass to Caleb Sparks and a conversion by Case Ashmore. After another Hornet score, Mayson Vahling caught a pass on 4th down, keeping the drive alive. Another pass to Sparks put 6 more points on the scoreboard 14-16.

The Hornets scored quickly bringing the score 14-24 at halftime. The Hornets came back from the break and scored in the first minute of the third quarter. The Trojans couldn't keep up and lost the contest 14-44, taking their first loss of the season.

Senior Caleb Sparks scored the only two touchdowns for the Trojans on 4 receptions for 95 yards. Ashmore caught for 88 yards on 7 receptions, and Vahling added 58 yards on 4 receptions. Carson Knipp ran for 51 yards on 15 carries, followed by Rhett Kats with 40 yards and Vahling with 35. Kats threw for 263 yards on offense and totaled 8 tackles on defense. Knipp added 7. Vahling and Knipp each caused a fumble while Knipp also recovered a fumble.

The Trojans will return home to Logan on Friday, Oct. 11 to host Tribune and to celebrate the six Trojan seniors. Kickoff will be at 7:00 pm.
