Logan FFA hosts food science and dairy quality contest

On Nov. 13, the Logan FFA hosted the food science and dairy Quality contest. There were 392 participants in total and 25 different schools represented. The food science contest requires students to have an in-depth understanding of food product development, food presentation and food safety issues. The students had to complete a food science test, related math problems test, triangle test, aroma test, product specifications test, and customer inquiry exam.

The following students participated in food science. The Senior Team: Tayden Gottschalk- 26th, Lylah Voss-64th, Ryan Prewo-84th, Breyer Delimont- 124th, Emma Traxler, buster States, and Cora Ashmore. The Senior Food Science team placed 12th out of 25 teams

The Greenhand participants were: Hanna Brumbaugh-1st, Haylee Hamilton-48th, Jayla Traxler-62nd, Brennan Loyd-Counter-87th, Ximena Ortiz, Jasper States, and Eason Gottschalk. The Greenhand Food Science team placed 8th as a team.

The students also participated in a Milk Quality products contest. The contest allows students to demonstrate their knowledge about the quality production, processing, distribution, promotion, and marketing of milk and dairy foods. The students took a written exam on milk production and a problem solving exam. They identified dairy and non-dairy products and the fat content. Identified cheese and their characteristics as well as milk flavor. They also had to do a CMT test (California Mastitis Test).

The students that participated in this contest were

Senior Team: Taden Gottschalk- 35th, Breyer Delimont- 48th, Cora Ashmore- 53rd, Lylah Voss-56th, Emma Traxler, Ryan Prewo, and Buster States. The team placed 7th out of 19 teams.

The Greenhand team consisted of the following: Hannah Brumbaugh- 2nd, Jayla Traxler-28th, Haylee Hamilton-30th, Ximena Ortiz-31st, Brennan Loyd-Counter-33rd, Easton Gottschalk, and Jasper States. The Milk Quality team placed 4th as a team out of 19 teams.
