Museum News (December 2, 2024)
As we swiftly transition from Thanksgiving to Christmas, this year feels particularly rapid due to Thanksgiving falling late in November. When considering gifts for friends and family, please keep the Museum in mind. Our Artist of the Month display area features a selection of wonderful, one-of-a-kind gifts, and this season, all photographs in our current exhibition, Kansas from 400’ or Less, are also available for purchase. Additionally, memberships and gift certificates for classes make for excellent experience gifts, providing a meaningful alternative to traditional tangible presents.
In the coming weeks, we will share videos featuring photographer Thomas Zimmerman discussing some of the works on display in his exhibition. The saying goes that a picture is worth a thousand words, and Zimmerman's photographs truly convey compelling stories. Hearing the artist share insights about the conditions under which a photo was taken adds a unique layer to the viewing experience. Just ten minutes after we posted the first video introducing the exhibition, it had already garnered 70 views on Facebook, so be sure to check out the Hansen Museum's page.
All photographs in Kansas from 400’ or Less were taken between Wichita and Quinter. Zimmerman's deep love for the land is evident throughout this exhibition. Having grown up in Western Kansas and working the land for many years, he captures scenes that resonate with those familiar with the labor involved in farming or raising cattle. In addition to agricultural themes, viewers will appreciate the artistic flair of many photographs; while not abstract, they present an edgy perspective from behind the lens.
Due to popular demand, our Christmas Floral Design class is now full; however, there are still about five spots available in the Homemade Bierock Class. If you wish to attend a class, we encourage you to register promptly as these sessions fill up quickly.
Looking ahead to January, the Hansen Museum will host our annual Winter Dance class. This class offers exceptional value at just $100 per couple or $60 per single. Participants will enjoy six sessions where they will learn various dance steps from a highly accomplished instructor. Kerry Fergueson, who was a professional dance competitor for many years, brings his expertise and experience into his teaching style. This class also serves as a fun gift idea.
The exhibition Kansas from 400' or Less will be on view through January 26, 2025. Visitors are encouraged to explore this extraordinary showcase of Kansas's beauty from a unique aerial perspective. The museum is open Monday through Friday from 9:00 AM to 12:00 PM and 1:00 PM to 4:00 PM; Saturday from 9:00 AM to 12:00 PM and 1:00 PM to 5:00 PM; and Sunday from 1:00 PM to 5:00 PM. We are located at 110 W. Main Street, Logan, Kansas. For more information, please call 785-689-4846. We hope to see you at the museum!
