City Council Meeting (July 11, 2024)

The Phillipsburg City Council met in a special meeting on July 11, 2024, 6:30 P.M, at 945 2nd Street, Phillipsburg, KS for the object and purpose of an executive session to discuss non-elected personnel.

PRESENT: Mayor Bret Miles, Councilmembers Brian Shrader; Terry McConnell; Jeannette Harris; Lauren Weinert; Mike James, Don Roberts.

ABSENT: None.

ALSO PRESENT: Jason Dibble; Katie Lehman; Dakota Lowrey; Ruben and Philip Steenkamp; Jamie McCreery; Carsen Meitl; Brandi Spray, City Clerk; Tim Driggs, City Administrator.

The Pledge of Allegiance to the United States was led by Mayor Bret Miles.

Moved by James, seconded by Harris that the city council recess into executive session to discuss a personnel matter pursuant to the non-elected personnel matter exception, K.S.A. 75-4319(b)(1) with the City Council, Mayor, Driggs, Spray, Lehman and Lowrey in attendance and the open meeting to resume in the city council chamber at 6:41pm.

Dibble, Steenkamps, McCreery, and Meitl left the meeting at 6:31pm. Steenkamps, McCreery, and Meitl returned to the meeting at 6:41pm.

Moved by James, seconded by Harris that the city council recess into executive session to discuss a personnel matter pursuant to the non-elected personnel matter exception, K.S.A. 75-4319(b)(1) with the City Council, Mayor, Driggs, Spray, Lehman, Lowrey, and Steenkamps in attendance and the open meeting to resume in the city council chamber at 6:57pm.

McCreery and Meitl left the meeting at 6:42pm. McCreery and Meitl returned to the meeting at 6:57pm.

Moved by James, seconded by Harris that the city council recess into executive session to discuss a personnel matter pursuant to the non-elected personnel matter exception, K.S.A. 75-4319(b)(1) with the City Council, Mayor, Driggs, Spray, Lehman, Lowrey, McCreery and Meitl in attendance and the open meeting to resume in the city council chamber at 7:07pm.

Steenkamps left the meeting at 6:57pm. McCreery and Meitl left the meeting at 7:07pm.

After discussion was held, it was the consensus of the council that employees’ actions warranted disciplinary actions as set forth in the City of Phillipsburg personnel policies. City council directed Driggs to meet with the individuals and inform them of the council’s decisions.

Moved by James, seconded by Shrader to adjourn- time. 7:18 pm. Voting Aye: ALL. Opposed: NONE.
