The Hansen Museum is currently showcasing an exhibition titled Kansas from 400’ or Less, featuring stunning photographs taken by Thomas Zimmerman between Wichita and Quinter, Kansas. Many of these images were captured during his travels to and from softball tournaments with his daughter.
The exhibition highlights not only the breathtaking Kansas landscape but also iconic scenes that define the region. One standout photograph captures the spires of the Basilica of St. Fidelis, commonly known as the Cathedral of the Plains, located in Victoria. This impressive Romanesque structure, which stands in the form of a cross, faces west with its majestic towers rising 141 feet above the prairie landscape. A stone statue of its patron, St. Fidelis of Sigmaringen, watches over the façade above the rose window. Recognized as one of the Eight Wonders of Kansas in 2008, the Basilica attracts over 16,000 visitors each year. Its architectural significance and historical importance make it a must-see destination for those exploring Kansas.
Visitors to the exhibition can immerse themselves in Zimmerman’s artistic vision, experiencing the beauty and unique perspectives of Kansas through his innovative photography. The exhibit runs until January 26th, providing ample opportunity for art lovers and community members to appreciate these captivating images. The museum is open Monday through Friday from 9:00 AM to 12:00 PM and 1:00 PM to 4:00 PM; Saturday from 9:00 AM to 12:00 PM and 1:00 PM to 5:00 PM; and Sunday from 1:00 PM to 5:00 PM.
